The Roy Pitman Society is a charitable organisation which aims to promote the donation of organs, blood and bone marrow for the furtherance of life.
Its current projects include an education scheme to raise awareness of the importance of donation for 11–13 year olds in schools and community groups, as well an awareness program for all – particularly those people carrying organ donor cards pre-1994 who may not be on the donor register. Less than 30% of the population are on the register and there are over 2000 people currently on waiting lists, many of whom will not survive because of the lack of organs.
